Wilhemina is a precocious 6-year old girl who one day found a mysterious hat in the woods and is now the queen of the forest creatures known as Tomos. However, wearing the hat has given her a beard, and if she removes the hat she will die. By wearing the Tomos Hat of Power, Wilhemina is now eternally bound to their fate. She may never remove the hat, or suffer the consequence of death. However, she now cannot be killed by earthly means so long as she wears the hat, the Beard of Eminence remains on her face and the Tomos are alive and safe. The Tomos now recognise her as their queen and guardian and follow her wherever she goes. Unfortunately, Wilhemina is not too pleased with her new responsibilities as queen, and having the Tomos follow her around everywhere can be quite the nuisance, but in time she is learning to embrace this new direction her young life is taking.

The easy going cousin of Amelie, Sebastien’s charming laid-back demeanor and rogue-ish good-looks have made him the object of affection of many a young lass, including Brunhilde and our dear Wilhemina. Whenever he’s around, Wilhemina becomes dumbstruck, turning completely mute and near catatonic, which Sebastien actually finds a little cute. Brunhilde, of course, is constantly jealous of any girl he pays attention to, and does everything in her power to humiliate Wilhemina in front of him. Cursed with a horn growing from his forehead, Sebastien is the guardian of the Vens, a group of laid back little creatures who just love to chill and play relaxing games.

Alejandro was just a regular boy who loved to go camping. However, one fateful day he sat far too close to the his campfire, and passed out from the heat. When he came to, his supplies had been stolen and campfire had been extinguished. Seeking shelter from the cold, Alejandro took refuge in a nearby cave. With only the thin little shirt on his back, he began to grow cold and desperately tried to …find something to help warm himself. What he eventually found was the Kasai Hat of Power, and immediately put it on, not knowing of his terrible fate: to be forever cursed with a flaming head. Fortunately for him, he is now also fireproof to a certain extent, and fire only causes mild irritation, as opposed to greater conflagration. He also now has the power to protect the creatures known as the Kasai. These glowing rodents have the ability to fly and resemble small flames. However, they are not actually made of fire, rather, they are merely covered in bioluminescent fur strands that are extremely fine and constantly moving rapidly, giving the illusion of a dancing flame. This rapid motion also produces a fair amount of heat, so to someone meeting a Kasai for the first time, it is understandable that the mistake might be made.

Ludovic is the geeky, shy but sweet little brother of Wilhemina’s nemesis, Brunhilde. After seeing all the other kids with their Hats of Power, little Ludo was feeling left out so he decided to search for one himself, hoping to impress Wilhemina, towards whom he harbors a secret crush. After days and days of looking with no luck, Ludovic decided to crawl into a hollow log and cry. Lo’ and behold…a hat was sitting in the log waiting for him, and without hesitation, he placed the crown on his head. Unfortunately, the hat gave him lord and guardianship over the Myus, a one-eyed slug like race of creature with a taste for sweet things. In any normal circumstance, they would be no harm to anyone, and are even said to be extremely pleasant and affectionate. However, Ludovic is cursed to be constantly covered in a very thin layer of goo, which is actually very tasty to the Myus. While they have no intention of devouring anything but the goo, they’re constant suckling is a cause of much distress to poor Ludovic.

Amelie is another of Wilhemina’s close friends, who is one of the nicest girls you could ever meet. She is always looking out for the wellbeing of her friends, and many look up to her as a big sister. This beautiful quality of hers however, is what led to her becoming the Queen of the Malos. Her curse is merpersonism ie. her lower body is now that of a fish, and while she will never walk again, this allows her to protect the Malos with greater ease, and the Malos could not love her more. However, despite looking like a mermaid, she has no gills or any means of breathing underwater, so she can’t stay submerged too long, although she’s practicing very hard. On the upside, she is still able to survive indefinitely out of water, though in order to get around, she requires a wheelchair.

Erica is an energetic girl who loves to make dolls. She is one of Wilhemina’s best friends. One day whiles frolicking in the woods in search of wild animals to shave (for materials for her dolls) she came across a tattered looking hat. Feeling sorry for the poor hat (due to her habit of anthropomorphising inanimate objects) Erica took the hat home to repair, in the hopes to make it feel better. With a few new stitches and a good run through with fabric softenter, the hat was looking mighty jolly again. Unfortunately, unaware of the magical power contained within the hat, Erica placed it upon her cheerful head, and thus became the new guardian of the Pacas, small wooly creatures that love to stampede around the forest. However Erica is ecstatic with her new friends, as she now has a nigh endless supply of Paca wool for her creations, and despite having been cursed with alpaca feet (which have increased her kicking power, but made her more susceptible to “foot and mouth disease”), she could not be happier.

Jean-Pierre loves nature and science. There’s nothing better for him to do than explore the forest with his little microscope and science ledger on a sunny afternoon. However, one day while studying some igneous feldspar below a cliff, Jean-Pierre was caught in a rockslide and fatally wounded. Luckily for him, his feeble cry of agony was heard by some creatures living in a cave nearby, the Gomuls…. The Gomuls pulled Jean-Pierre from under the rubble, all bruised, broken and on the brink of death. The only way they could save hiim was to put their hat of power on him. And so Jean-Pierre became their new guardian. His curse though is questionable. It is thought that pale white skin is his curse, though there is another theory that he died in the rockslide and his curse is actually “living undeath” (ie. he’s some kind of zombie). Curse aside, Jean-Pierre loves his new friends, the Gomul. Just a whiff of their sweet scent can lift any mood (and also attracts fairies and sprites), and they are naturally prone to looking after depressed or wounded creatures they happen upon.

Brunhilde is  Wilhemina’s Worst Friend/Best Enemy. She is the guardian/queen of the forest creatures known as the Dachis. Brunhilde received her Hat of Power while enjoying a stroll and some ice cream one day, when she fell into a pitfall trap that was set by the Dachis.  The Dachis love playing tricks on other creatures, especially ones that they are very fond of – it’s just how they show their affection. The Dachis had been watching Brunhilde, completely smitten by her. As she yelled obscenities at them from the hole, the Dachis began to feel bad, and made a quick rescue, fishing her out of the hole with some vines. As a peace offering, they presented her with their Hat of Power which she gladly accepted. She has become cursed with a purple racoon tail, which is especially ticklish, leading to random outbursts of uncontrollable laughter. Brunhilde is delighted at the fact that Wilhemina has a beard, and constantly mocks and berates her for this.

Clarice is one of Wilhemina’s neighbours. She is a bit of a simple minded airhead, whom Wilhemina finds a little frustrating to talk to, but they are still friends all the same. Despite being forewarned of the Cursed Hats of Power, Clarice found hers and put it on without any hesitation, thinking it was just a really cute costume piece. Her curse for wearing the hat is that her face has become that …of a rabbit’s, though she finds the transformation to be really cute and funny, and has no desire to take it off. The hat grants her guardianship over the Kitos, a small rabbit-like race of forest dwellers. Much like her, they are a little on the simple minded side, and so have a very strong affinity with their queen, so much so that they have grown tails that mirror her flowing red locks. (on a side note, their “ears” are actually prehensile limbs, while their actual ears are invisible to the naked eye and located on the sides of their bodies)

Ahhh Maryn. She claims to be a demon who got tired of life in the underworld and decided to start afresh as a young girl on Earth. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of demons and demonology, and an active interest in the occult. But don’t misunderstand, she is not evil by any account, though one might mistake her for a bad egg since she is often seen hanging out with Brunhilde. However, she only does so as she finds Brunhilde to be quite amusing and fascinating, and partly only assists her in her evil schemes because Maryn enjoys watching Brunhilde fail. Maryn is actually a friend to everyone, and has a very straightforward personality and rarely smiles, which she attributes to her so-called demon heritage. She has a genuine curiosity and interest in others, and likes to observe at length everything around her, and it is this aspect of her personality which led to her becoming the Queen of the Yaoyaos. One night, while gazing at the moon by the river, Maryn noticed a peculiar cat like creature sitting next to her, also gazing at the moon. The creature noticed Maryn back and gazed back at her. After a few hours of staring at each other, more of these creatures appeared and the staring continued. The next morning, Maryn discovered that she was wearing their Hat of Power for some reason, and that her ears had suddenly grown 3 times larger. Absolutely none of this fazed her, and so she accepted her new position with much indifference. Maryn has a peculiar relationship with her Yaoyao followers. She is somewhat curious to find out more about them, but isn’t particularly at the ready to protect them despite being their guardian. The Yaoyaos themselves don’t really look to Maryn as their protector or queen, but follow her regardless, and neither party really shows any affection for the other, but both respect the others’ existence.
